What I like to read

Every reader has them: the favourite genres. Today I want to tell you about mine, tell you why they are my favourites and I want to give you a few recommendations.

  • YA – Fantasy
This is one of my favourite genres of all time, because I practically started to love books because of this one. The series that introduced me to this was of course the Harry Potter series. I think I don´t have to recommend this one, because everyone knows how great it is 😉 I love books with magic and supernatural elements, as long as they are not too crazy or something like that. Magic, Vampires,Timetraveling, Demons (orDemonhunters :P) are all very welcome in my bookshelf. Some of my favourite books/series of this genre are:

  • Dystopian
This one is also a genre that is very popular. At first I didn´t like it very much. I was introduced to it by “THe Hunger Games” which is also a book many of you know. I really loved the idea to read about the future and what could happen with our world. It is kind of scary, what many authors imagined. But they made a great job and most of them are really believable! After the hunger games I didn´t a dystopian book for a pretty long time. They all sounded alike (which in a way they arexD) and none of them could get my attention. But then I read “The Selection” and was hooked again. It isn´t the typically dark dystopian, it kind of brought me back to the genre. I don´t want to read every book of this kind, but some of them caught my interest and there are a few that I loved and want to read again some day!

    • Historical Novel
I love to travel trough time when I read a book that is set in another century! I love to read about the history of our world and the different morals and manners. I especially love to explore the 18th and 19th century Great Britain and USA. It is so exciting to read about another time and pretend to be there and go on adventures with the characters. I learned to love this genre trough the “Ruby Red” trilogy, because the main character would travel through time and I loved the idea of that. I loved the parts where Gwen was in another century and so I began to read “real” historical novels. My favourite series is from Jennifer Donnelly!!

  • New Adult
New Adult is a genre between Young Adult and Adult. Most of the time you have characters between 18 and 30 who are about to settle their lives. The younger characters just started college or are in the middle of it and the older ones are mostly starting their work live. Another difference to YA is that the relationship part dosen´t stop at kissing or making out. It is all a bit (or a large bit ;P) more detailed. In this genre there are a few subgenres like paranormal or contemporary etc. I like the contemporary NA books the most. These books are just great for relaxing. You can read the most of them in a day or two, so they are not very large. They mostly come in a series a are very addictive! I stumbled across this genre randomly. But I fell in love with it after the first book! It isn´t your usual innocent first love YA book anymore. They deal often with very rough themes like rape or abuse, but they can be very sweet too. I love this genre, I am 21 years old and my taste in books is growing with me. But I didn´t stop reading YA, just the contemporary ones (mostly). The y just can´t enterain me that much anymore. So NA is just the right thing for me right now 🙂 My favourite Authors are Abbi Glines, Samantha Young and Aurora Rose Reynolds.

      1. Really, that good? Oh my! I actually have two of the books in the trilogy (it is a trilogy right?) but I don’t have the first one, Ruby Red! I’ll try to get a hold of that one soon!

  1. Abbi Glines and Samantha Young are a couple of my favorite authors. I’ve blogged about many of their books. Seeing that you also enjoy them, I’m thinking I should read Aurora Rose Reynolds as well. Another of my favorite NA authors is Nicole Williams – Crash series.
