Bout of Books 14 Updates

Good Morning people (:

Today starts the Bout of Books read-a-thon! If you don’t know just follow the link and check it out!

I am participating for the first time at Bout of Books and have to figure out how this all works. I already did a couple of read-a-thons, but not this one.
I think I still have to figure out how that works with the schedule/Twitter chat etc. because of the different time zones! But I think I´ll manage (:

My Goals for this week:

The problem with me is that I am terrible at sticking to my goals! Especially with reading goals. I am totally a “Mood-Reader” I just read what I am in the mood for.
But I plan on finishing the book I am currently reading. I am about halfway trough and have at least 200 pages to read. Then I am going to see if I NEED to read the sequel of this book or if I am in the mood for something else 😉
Then I plan on listening to an audiobook a bit.
And I will just head into the read-a-thon and see what I get done, the important part is still the reading part (:

I decided today (It is Tuesday and I decided to change my update system) that I will use this post for all my updates in this week!

A Journey Through Books: Scotland

Hello dear readers 🙂
On the weekend I read a book that was set in Scotland and suddenly I had an Idea. I wanted to write a post about books that are set in Scotland, because I love to travel and I loved our trip to Scotland in 2010 and I love to read books that are set in foreign countries.
I am pretty great fan of Great Britain and Ireland, I love the culture and the countries and the was very impressed by all of it. The love for especially this countries comes..of course from Harry Potter. I fell in love with all the landscapes that were shown in the movies. It became my dream to see them, especially castles..I wanted to go and see every castle that existed in the United Kingdom. Then in 2010 we finally made it. We traveled one week around Ireland and one week around Scotland and it was one of the most amazing trips I have ever taken! I was stunned!
Sadly I can’t just go to Scotland everyday, so I have to imagine I am there and that I manage to do with books. I love to delve into books that are set somewhere far from my home, and if they are historicals I love it even more.

The first book I want to mention is of course Outlander by Diana Gabaldon
Surprise, surprise.. 😛

I had not an easy start with that one. When I heard from it through a Youtube review I thought: OMG I HAAAAVE TO READ IT.
Then..a long time passed and I finally got it on my kindle and started reading. I read half of the book and cast it aside, because it could´t capture me. I was so sad, because I wanted to love it. Theeeen 1 1/2 years later I saw the trailer to the TV-Show and I wanted to watch it…really. But I thought I can not watch it without finishing the book and so I gave it another chance..and read it in a matter of days. I guess it wasn’t the right time when I first started it, but it was so worth it. I loved to read about Jamie and Claire and all their adventures in the Highlands. I loved to imagine their surroundings and when they where at places I visited at my trip, I could imagine everything even better.
Not just the book was great, the show is also. I love that they stayed so close to the story! Sam Heughan is just a perfect Jamie. And I love the scenery very much.
I think everyone who is a fan of Scotland and loves to read about it should give Outlander at least a try. It may be hard to get into it, but it´s just a wonderful book. Sadly I am still stuck with book Nr. 2 (It has over 900 pages :O) but I am progressing 😛 I plan on reading the whole series…eventually 😉

Sometimes I love to hear music while reading and there is of course a soundtrack to this kind of books 😉

Next I want to tell you about a series that I just started and am currently reading the third book. It´s the McCabe Trilogy by Maya Banks.

It´s about three brothers who are struggling to keep their clan alive and have to

fight against traitors. And of course every brother gets his own book and finds the love of his life. Sounds really cheesy right? Yeah…it is really cheesy, but that’s ok…I like cheesy!
Those books are not for everyone. First, it has a lot of sex in it; second, the story is not perfect it can get a bit weak. But it could really entertain me. It was sweet and funny, but at the same time it was shocking and brutal. I really liked all the main characters and the story lines and I have to say the second book in the series had one of the most romantic scenes in it that I read!
These books are perfect for all highland lovers. Sadly it is never mentioned in what year/years the stories take place, but a King Alexander is mentioned and a Kind David so I googled and I think it takes place around 1124..it´s usually not ma favorite time..but I still like it. It´s really cool to read about the life in a clan and how it all worked. I can recommend this series to all of you who have a romantic heart and want something sexy paired with fighting and some hot highlanders 😉

I also love this song very very much!
The last series I want to recommend is one of my all time favorites but it is a contemporary series that is set in Edinburgh.

It´s the On Dublin Street Series by Samantha Young.
I think I already mentioned this one in one of my posts. I love to read about Edinburgh, it made me want to go there again. I hope I can do that sometime. I love all the couples, but especially Jo and Cam from Down London Road. I really enjoyed reading about all the places in Edinburgh and felt like I was right there with all of them. It´s a really beautiful city and compared with all that romantic it was a really lovely read and I  devoured the first 5 books in a week!

For some other ideas of books that are set in Scotland check out some Goodreads list:
Best Highland/Scotland Romance Novels
Books set in Scotland
Best Scottish Fiction

Have you read any of those books? Or other books of Scotland that you can recommend to me?

Review on Friday: Garrett by Sawyer Bennett

Hey Guys 🙂

Todays assignment on blogging101 is to think about fix schedule for the blog or at least one “thing” that reoccurs weekly or monthly. I thought about this for a while now and decided to do a”Review on Friday” (I know it’s not as cool as an alliteration, but the week does´t have a day that starts with an “R”..so you have to live with that :P) Post every week. I will be reviewing books, movies and Tv Shows. I didn’t figure out how I want to do this yet. I am just going to star now with a review, but I think I´ll keep it casual and not very formal and probably no rating system. We´ll just see how that goes 🙂

So let´s start with the review 🙂

“Carolina Cold Fury star Garrett Samuelson never wants to miss out on a single minute of fun. Whether he’s playing hockey, hanging out with friends, or walking the red carpet with a new date on his arm, he lives every day to the fullest. When he meets Olivia Case, he sees someone who’s exactly his type—confident, sexy, smart . . . his next fling. But the more he pursues her, the more Garrett shares a side of himself that other women don’t normally get to see.

Olivia has been keeping a secret. While Garrett lives for the next thrill, Olivia’s not sure she’ll live to see the next day. She’s undergoing treatment for some serious medical issues, and she doesn’t have time for a relationship with no guarantees—especially one with a hot-as-sin womanizer who won’t take no for an answer. But as she gets to know the real Garrett, Olivia can’t help falling for him . . . hard. To reveal the truth would mean risking everything—but you can’t score without taking the tough shots.”

A few months ago I read the first book in this series “Alex” and it was ok, not bad but not awesome. I didn´t intend to read the second book, but last week I had no idea what I wanted to read, so I thought I´ll try this series again. And I have to say I liked it a bit more than book one.
I really liked Garrett as main character. Sure it wasn´t reeeeeally realistic that he changes from man-whore to best-boyfriend-ever in not more than a couple of days. But seriously..I don´t read those books because I am looking for something realistic, I read those books because they can entertain me and are fast reads. And I got this with “Garrett”. I loved how sweet he was with Olivia and that he did´t give up on her!
Olivia was a bit difficult, sure she had all my sympathies because of her illness and everything and I understood most of the time were she was coming from, but some decisions of her I just couldn’t comprehend. But all in all she and Garrett were a very cute couple.
The ending could have been a bit more dramatic for my taste, because if she has such an illness one might expect that it gets really serious at least at some point at the book. But like the whole book it was ok.

I enjoyed reading this book. It was cute and sexy and short-lived, just what I wanted! I can recommend this series to all who want a short adventure with a hot hockey player 😉

New Books + Summer TBR

Hello Readers 🙂

I hope you had a nice day 🙂
Mine was ok, I had an exam that I have now mixed feelings about..but I think it´s at least positiv! The better part of my day included book-shopping…that always makes my mood better 😛

I actually didn´t plan on buing books..but like so often they just found their way into my hands..it was destiny 😉

I am sure you want to know what I bought 😀 so here they are…

I held back and bought just two. “To Kill a Mockingbird” by Harper Lee was on my mind since a few days. I read it about two years ago, but in german. So I wanted to read it in english and now is the perfect timing because in a few weeks the “new” book of Harper Lee will come out and I so want to read that. And “A Discovery of Witches” By Beborah Harkness I bought spontaniously. I read about it a while ago and today it cought my eye and I thought..why not.

Today I decided to make a Summer TBR and write about it here. Normally I am not the type to choose a certain number of books that I want to read in a month or so, because it never works xD But I thought I´d try it again. So the next picture will show the books that I plan on reading during this summer.

From Top to Bottom: To Kill a Mockingbird – Harper Lee; A Discovery of Witches – Deborah Harkness; Persuasion – Jane Austen;  The Invetntion of Wings – Sue Monk Kidd; Die Insel der roten Mangroven (Islang of the red Mangroves) – Sarah Lark; An Abundance of Kathirnes – John Green; Fanrgirl – Rainbow Rowell; The Secret Life of Bees – Sue Mong Kidd; Paper Towns – John Green;

I hope I read at least a few of them! Have you guys read any of those and can recommend, then please tell me 🙂
A few E-Books are also on my TBR for the summer, but they are all coming out during the summer, so I haaaave to read them..I am so excited, espaciall for the new Abbi Glines book!

How my favorite “toy” shaped my life…

In response to The Daily Post’s writing prompt: “Toy Story.”

Good evening fellow bloggers and readers 🙂

I am a little late for todays blogging101 assignment, I had lectures all day and an exam..it was really exhausting, but I signed up for this so I am doing it!

The assignment for today is to make a prompt personal and todays prompt is “Toy Story”. I think the prompt fits my blog pretty good, because I will talk about a book that shaped my life. So it´s not really a toy, but I never really had a favorite toy..at least non that I can think of.     I´ll just tell you about this amazing story that fascinated me as an 8 year old girl and still does it.

It was in 2001 when my sister got home from a school trip to the cinema and told us about this great movie she just saw with her class. The name of this movie was “Harry Potter and the Philosophers Stone”. I didn’t really know Harry Potter at this time, I just knew that everyone was speaking about it, but I thought it wasn’t something for me. But as my sister was so amazed by it, my father took me and my siblings to the cinema to watch it. I have to say I was hooked from second one! The movie charmed me so much that after I left the cinema I had to know all about it. I even started reading the first book, but I was eight and couldn’t read very well, so my mom bought us the Audio CD. And from this point on we spent hours over hours listening to the CDs. I got obsessed with the world of Harry Potter and became a true fan. Every time a new book/CD or movie came out there was this special feeling in the air that united millions of fans over the whole world and I just loved it. When I turned eleven I seriously was disappointed that I didn’t get a letter! I wanted to go to Hogwarts so bad! You ask yourself how a book (or a movie :P) can shape someones life? I tell you..If it weren’t for Harry Potter I may not have the connection to books I have now, if it weren’t for Harry Potter I would not have gone to the school I chose (it was in a small little castle –> MY PERSONAL HOGWARTS :D) if it were´t for that school I wouldn’t have met my best friend and finally if it weren’t for Harry Potter AND the school I chose, I may never have guessed that I wanted to study comparative literature (and english, because I am taking it too next semester :D) and that would have been a shame. I believe that Joanne K. Rowling has shaped me so much with her great story. I grew up with Harry, Ron and Hermione. They were the heroes of my childhood and are still with me. I love reading the books again, or listening to the CDs or watching the movies. It will be a part of me…Always (hahah—HP reference :P).

Have you a book/movie/story or something that shaped in any way then tell me 🙂

xoxo

This is for all the Potterheads out there..The Harry Potter Tag

Good Morning readers 🙂

Todays assignment on blogging101 is to write a post inspired by a post you commented on yesterday. I commented on driftinglexi´s “The Harry Potter Tag” and since I am a biiiiig HP-Fan and loved the questions and especially the answers of driftinglexi I had to say so. And now I am going to do that Tag too.

What is your favorite book?
My favorite book in the series is definitely “Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince”. I just loved how funny it could be. JKR surprises me overtime again with her little things. But it was also a big shocker of course! I mean Dumbledore O: and so much more…the whole horcux thing. I just loved it!

What is your favorite film?
Ohhh that is difficult.. I think the third one. “Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban” was an awesome movie. Yes I think I´ll stay with it 😉

What is your least favorite book?
“Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets”. I mean I still love it, I reread it a few months ago and it was awesome, but in comparison with the other books it just isn´t that good! Buuut I have to say Gilderoy Lockhart is one of the funniest characters in the series!

What is your least favourite film?
I sadly have to say the Half-Blood Prince. I was soooooo excited about this movie because I loved the book so much. But it kind of disappointed me. They left out so much things I was excited about to see and all in all it was just a disappointment 😦

If you had to hook up with any character wo would it be?
Ohhhh…that is difficult! I say Ron 😀

Who is your favorite character?
Whhyyyyy do I have to choose? Thats not fair! I love so many of them, but I am going to choose Ginny as representative of the whole Weasly family! And Hermione!

Who is your least favorite character?
Bellatrix Lestrange!!!! I hate her!!

What is your least favorite line?
I don´t have one, everything Joanne K. Rowling wrote in that books is fabulous!

What would your patrons be?
Maybe a fox? I have no idea xD

If you could have the Resurrection Stone, the Invisibility Cloak or the Elder Wand, what would it be?
The cloak! I could drive with the train without paying xD or I could, like Harry, sneak into a library/bookshop and do what I want 😀

Which house would you be in?
I guess somewhere between Ravenclaw and Hufflepuff…a Ravenpuff? 😛

If you could meet any member of the cast, who would it be?
Emma Watson, Rupert Grint or Daniel Radcliffe…but it would be really great if I could meet Joanne K. Rowling!!!!

If you were on the quiddtich team which position would you play?
Öhhhhm… probably a chaser or a keeper.

Where you happy with the ending?
Yes very much! An no..because it was the end 😦 but it was a good ending! It was sad and tragic, but we would have hated it if no one died! At least no one of the three died..that would have been cruel!

How much does Harry Potter mean to you?
It means everything to me! The Harry Potter books introduced me to reading..and I love reading! I grew up with these books and characters, they shaped me in so may ways and I would be missing a pig part if they did´t exist. I loved every second of every book and the special mood every time a new book or movie came out was priceless! The whole world was excited and connected so many people!

This was really fun! Now I want to re-read all of the books xD
Thanks driftinglexi for tagging all the Potterheads 😀
